First and Foremost- Determine your skin type. Whether you have dry, sensitive, oily or a combination skin type will greatly establish what your skin routine will be. Being able to determine this will be the most important step of creating your skin regime.

  • Normal skin. Normal skin is generally the type of skin that young people possess. People with normal skin usually have the least blemishes, barely visible pores and generally a radiant complexion.
  • Oily skin is the easiest to identify. It’s usually the skin type that is always shiny, prone to the most blemishes and has the largest pores.
  • Dry Skin. Dry skin has a dough and rough complexion with almost invisible pores. Less elasticity and more visible lines even at a younger age.

Use a gentle exfoliating agent. This is most essential in a skin care regime partly because it makes the job of your moisturizers and serums more effective by removing that top layer of dead skin cells. Dry skin and pore clogging comes from neglect in exfoliation. Eventually, these unwanted conditions lead to acne and dull looking skin. The best are the ones that contain beads or particles to clear away the oldest layer that causes your skin to look less radiant. For dry skin, you want to exfoliate at least once every week and a half. For other ski types, exfoliating one a week is most idea.

Moisturize. For dry skin, steer clear from lotions and focus more on ointments or serums to moisturize. Not only does applying moisturizer prevent dry skin and prevent it from drying out in the future but moisturizer also creates a barrier on your skin to protect your skin from any outside interferences including the harmful outside elements that could cause your skin to be irritated or dry.Tone it up. Toner leaves skin in a better position to soak in all the serums and the harder working labor that you apply to your skin. A toner works to reduce the pores on your skin, so you can assume it to be a must for oily skin.

Cleanser. For dry and sensitive skin, avoid a cleanser that contains bead particles, as this is tough on your skin and may cause the skin to be irritated and besides, you already get this effect with your exfoliation. For cleanser look for one that is water soluble, so it won’t totally dry out your face after cleansing. Also look for one that is fragrance free and contains the least ingredients. Never choose a cleanser that contains more than 10 ingredients.

Above all, you also may want to invest in a face mask. You can find all kinds of tutorials preparing your own mask- typically with food products. You only want to use a mask once a week.
